Is communism to be relegated to the dustbin of our world’s painful history or is the threat of it still real and ready to strike at any time? Is it worth spending our time and energy to increase awareness about communism and its intrinsic evils? Should we sit back and hope that if we pretend it barely exists anymore on this planet that the idea of it will fade away forever and disappear?
Growing up during the late 20th century in a communist country, I KNOW how it was, and I hope that nobody will ever experience the fear and darkness of communism again.
The main goal of this website is to explain to younger generations the truth about communism, the fear that it engenders, and the hopelessness that created among the many populations that it infected. I’ve recently seen the resurgence of Che Guevara’s face in popular iconography. In my mind wearing a shirt with a picture of Che Guevara on it is much like wearing a shirt with Osama Bin Laden on it. Perhaps it is even worse, because Che murdered with his own hands many people, including small children in the name of the communist ideology. Yes, there’s no doubt that he looks great on a shirt - but he was a ruthless killer – and it’s important for all of us to never forget this…particularly when his visage is worn as “art” and the person “wearing Che” thinks he is cool.
There are some people on the Internet who call themselves “information theorists” or “infrastructure architects” who envision a resurgence of communism during the 21st century due to the fact that the very nature and power of the Internet will spawn a new revolution. They use the power words of communism that are now, thankfully, cliché…words like “bourgeois,” “working class,” “proletarian,” “anti-revisionism,” and "dictatorship of the proletariat.” Despite the clichés I still feel sick to my stomach when I hear this. In these people’s minds, a communist society should be ruled by the principle “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.” The parroting of this principle by people who believe that they are members of the “proletarian class” when they in fact possess the wealth and means of the very “bourgeoisie” they wish to overthrow is beyond understanding.
What about the people who really believed in the ideals of communism and realized too late that it was only a faded dream of an unattainable utopia? Sometimes, if I let myself feel anything for them, I’m sorry because they wasted their lives and probably died disappointed. Regardless, we cannot forget the millions upon millions of people who were killed in the camps and prisons because they were against communist ideology. To paraphrase the poet and philosopher George Santayana…whoever doesn’t know his history is doomed to repeat it…
Let’s not repeat history.
Please feel free to email me. I promise I will answer any and all decent communications. I am ready to share everything I know about communism, from my personal perspective, with anyone who is interested in learning more.
Let’s work hard to create a better world without fear and without killing in the name of an ideal.
